Gulu University, like many other universities in the country, is in the process of welcoming year one students, commonly referred to as Freshers.
Traditionally, these fresh lads are ushered into the university officially with the biggest event of the semester, the freshers’ ball – a social occasion that pulls enormous crowds for entertainment.
The Ball is not just a mere event but as well a yardstick to measure the Guild’s performance as either an achievement or failure since the leaders are the chief organizers.
Gulu University is set to host the Freshers’ ball and word roaming around the main campus in Gulu city indicates that the line up of artistes is not quite appealing.
It is against this background that a concerned student has penned an open letter to the Guild President decrying the tentative plans.
The letter is quoted below;
Dear H.E Anyama Alfred Berliner,
Sir, I have not even an ounce of doubt on your ability to execute pro-student activities because you’ve ably and significantly done this throughout the past years.
Your excellency, I wish to report to you that the prestigious 21st guild government which is headed by you organized a very sham and distasteful GUILD BAZAAR.
I do not say this in a bid to stir ‘Vawulence’ but to implore you, the supreme head of the government to guard against raising this same dust in the other guild activities.
I have been informed, through grapevine though, that Freshers’ Ball is around the corner and Fille Mutoni will be the main artist of the day. I am uncertain of the veracity of these ‘rumors’, but be that it may, accurate or otherwise, I wish to strongly object the idea of hiring Fille mutoni as the biggest artist of that D-day because of the following reasons;
- Fille is a faded artist.Her presence will only dull and bore the event.
- Fille has no hit songs currently, and has never had one for the past three years.
- There are better artistes who can be hired at a price slightly higher than Fille’s .
That said, I wish to propose three female artists you could bring to the occasion to give it a different sparkle.
- Winnie Nwagi – Fire baby.
- Azawi
- Sheebah
- Vinka.
But wait, who am I to advise an elite cohort of honorables who could after all, ignore this ‘noise’ and decide as they please? I therefore choose to mute and pass.
