Ms. Ruyingo Annah Elise (Masters in Monitoring and Evaluation) and Mr. Byamugisha Joshua Jovan (Bachelor of Science in computer security and Forensics) were the best graduands at postgraduate and undergraduate levels respectively.

In his speech, Prof Venasius Baryamureba, the chairman board of directors at UTAMU mentioned that UTAMU is a God-favored institution; which can be testified on several occasions where God has stepped into UTAMU’s situations to make a worthwhile difference. He tipped Graduates to be leaders, movers, and change-makers, and above all not to take God’s favor for granted.

Prof Baryamureeba also revealed that UTAMU is in the process of starting the School of Engineering.

“We would like to partner with the Ministry of Works and Transport, especially at the local government level on training students on the B.Sc. in Civil Engineering to enhance the capacity of LGs in road construction and maintenance. Our students will be able to gain practical experience by working with the LGs on roads and the LGs will have access to trainees as a source of labor,’’ he explained.

Gen Katumba Wamala was happy to note that UTAMU is always ranked among the top 10 Universities in Uganda by global University rankings and encouraged them to aim at being among the top three (3) in Uganda.

He assured them of government’s support since UTAMU is complementing the government in the provision of education, which is one of the pillars of development. He tipped UTAMU management to come up with strategic projects and programmes that government can buy into and partner with them.

He described that over the past 36 years, the country has witnessed a fundamental change in the education sector in this country. In 1986, Uganda had only one University, Makerere University.

“Today, we not only have twelve (12) public universities with more in the offing but we also have over 50 private universities. The NRM government has increased access to high education by establishing at least one public university in each region of Uganda and liberalizing the education sector which has led to the growth of private universities,’’ Gen Katumba Wamala enlightened.

According to Gen Katumba, the Ministry of Works and Transport is willing and able to have meaningful partnerships with higher educational institutions in areas of common interest.

He encouraged Nansana Municipal Council and Wakiso District where the insitution is based to have a win-win partnership with UTAMU in the running of programmes like a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.

“To the Graduands, I want to say that the world out there is full of challenges but its these challenges you should turn into opportunities. All the great companies in the world started to address challenges and they keep innovating to remain relevant as new challenges emerge.  This class of 2022 has the potential to produce billionaires. The issue is whether you are ready to innovate and dream at a global level,’’ he concluded.

Furthermore, the management of UTAMU disclosed that the institution is making a contribution to the continued realization of the fundamental change by offering the following 300 annual scholarships on its January 2023 intake;

  • 100 annual scholarships (20 per region) covering tuition and functional fees to secondary school teachers holding diplomas on the Bachelor of Education (Secondary).
  • 50 annual scholarships (10 per region) covering tuition and functional fees to employees of Local Governments (LGs) on the Bachelor of Public Administration and Management.
  • 50 annual scholarships (10 per region) covering tuition and functional fees to employees of Local Governments (LGs) on the Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Finance.
  • 100 annual scholarships (20 per region) covering tuition and functional fees to youth below the age of 30 on the Bachelor of Science in Software Engineering.
