Makerere University’s Directorate for ICT Support (DICTS) has officially launched the Mak Financial Management System (Mak-FMS).
Designed to streamline budget management for the Makerere Finance Directorate and individual user units, the system was inaugurated at a ceremony with the Chairperson of the Finance, Planning, Administration, and Investment Committee of the University Council, Mr. Bruce Kabaasa, serving as the Chief Guest.
The Mak-FMS system is an in-house development aimed at automating financial processes such as generating requisitions and vouchers within the university’s cost centers.
This initiative is a significant step towards improving the efficiency and transparency of financial operations at the university.
Mr. Evarist Bainomugisha, the University Bursar, expressed his gratitude to the Council, Management, and the developers at DICTS for their efforts in realizing this system.
He highlighted that the Mak-FMS would empower individual cost centers to manage their own budgets more effectively compared to the Integrated Financial Management Information System (IFMIS), which consolidates unit budgets.
University Secretary Mr. Yusuf Kiranda acknowledged the university council’s strategic commitment to digitizing all processes to enhance financial management at Uganda’s premier university.
