Kyambogo University has taken the first step to spearhead childhood education after Government recognised that early childhood development (ECD) is vital and allowed to set up government owned nursery schools.
While closing the education sector review conference recently, Ministry of Education and Sports and First Lady, Janet Kataaha Museveni confirmed that the ministry together with the government are finalising plans to introduce nursery classes in public schools starting next year.
In what is believed to be the foundation of a child’s education, the dean faculty of Education at Kyambogo University, Prof. Joyce Ayikoru has come out and said that the university will soon develop a curriculum for training nursery teachers.
“As requested by the government, we are also developing a curriculum, which nursery teachers in government schools should follow to give the early learners good foundation.
This is because all government primary schools should have early childhood development centres which is not the case presently,” Ayikoru said.
Kyambogo University will be issuing a statement on when the course shall be added to the university programs offered.
