The fire brigade have managed to put out the fire that started earlier this afternoon at rentals around Makerere university.
According to a lady who was also a victim of the fire, the cause of the fire was a charcoal stove which was lit by vendor getting ready to prepare lunch.
“Mukulu Kutuma lit the sigiri (Charcoal stove), they stay near timber and the whole thing caught fire…the source of the fire wasn’t the electricity, I work in a restaurant…i only saved a fridge… Everything else got burnt,” she said.
Revelers, students and vendors around that area have lost their properties and some had their businesses cut short when the fire started.
