The long wait is over as Uganda Christian University (UCU) is excited to receive its first ever medical students expected to report next Monday, August 20th 2018. In a letter dated February 26, 2018, the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) Executive director Prof. Apuda Asibo wrote to UCU informing them about the accreditation of their Medical courses.
The three accredited medical courses to be pursued at UCU include Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery and Bachelor of Dental Surgery. With the above courses, UCU will be able to train and produce Medical Doctors and Dentists.
The Mukono-based University took it to their official social media platforms to reveal how much excitement they have to receive the university’s pioneer medical students come Monday, August 20th. “Pioneer Uganda Christian University Medical School students are you ready! We are only counting 6 days to the long-awaited reporting on Monday 20th August 2018 for the September Semester.” A statement on UCU’s twitter account reads.
It is said that without any solicitation or advertising the programme, UCU received over 200 applicants last year alone seeking to be admitted into the UCU School of Medicine.
Shortly after being accredited at the beginning of 2018, the UCU Vice Chancellor Rev. Canon. Dr John Senyonyi was quoted promising to release dates when the university’s Medical School will officially be open.” Henceforth UCU will be training Medical doctors and Dentists. We shall be informing you about the starting date soon.” Senyonyi said earlier this year.
