The strike that has been looming over Kyambogo University in the past days has intensified after students’ anger was triggered by the Vice Chancellor’s allegations that the strikes are being pushed by the opposition especially Bobi Wine’s people power.
In an interview, Professor Katunguka told the press that the opposition is behind all this trying so hard to increase the students’ anxiety and that’s why many students are being brutalized.
This triggered students’ concern and forced them to seek for clarity which led to the Federal for Democratic Change to coming up to slam off his claims.
The party secretary Harold Kasaija told the media that the Vice Chancellor had no clear explanation to the unfair fees increment which is the reason as to why students are striking that’s why he brought in the opposition issue.
These strikes are centered on the unfair increment of the tuition fees which the guild president has failed to address. A lot of students were arrested and transferred to Jinja Police Station and others including girls that are still being held at the Kyambogo Police. Students were blocked from seeing their colleagues as the police remained hesitant saying they (students) need permission from the Chief Police Officer from Kyambogo and that matters may continue to court.
However students have sworn not to give up fighting for their own fundamental rights and freedom as stipulated in chapter four of the 1995 Ugandan constitution.
