Makerere University students are continuing to demand their internship money despite having left with few weeks for the new semester to kick off.
In an audio making rounds online, a furious Makerere University student from Nsibirwa Hall was recorded blowing fire following the continued failure by the university to release internship money.
“Let the cockroach s**t holes freeze the money, lets also freeze intern, because we don’t have transport, we have no medication, and of which that ka money they are giving us is too little. In fact those s**t holes should send us more money. They should send like 800k, they are giving us peanuts and even those peanuts are not coming. “the furious student said.
More than 6,000 government-sponsored students pursuing science programmes started internship on 17th May but the promised UGX 350,000 for every student has not be released yet.
Edward Mwavu, the deputy chairperson of Makerere University Academic Staff Association (MUASA), earlier revealed that staff supervisors cannot go to the field to supervise students without facilitation. This has left private students who are already in field stranded.
The university’s communication manager Dr. Muhammad Kiggundu revealed that students and supervisors will soon get their money since the Finance Ministry has released it.
