Musiri David, a Makerere University student who is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Commerce is among the 27 detained People Power members who were arrested yesterday when legislator Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine was planning to kick off his countrywide presidential consultations.
Although Bobi Wine and a few colleagues were released last night, Musiri and 26 others including People Power spokesperson, Joel Senyonyi are still behind bars. They are currently being held at Naggalama Police Station over unclear charges.
It should be recalled that Musiri was among the nine students who were suspended last year by the Makerere Vice Chancellor for allegedly destroying university’s property during the fees- must- fall strike and later summoned by the disciplinary committee on 14th November 2019.
Following his colleagues’ continued arrest, Bobi Wine has vowed not to continue with his consultations to other parts of the country until they are freed.
Their arrest was yesterday followed by violent protests in Kasangati, where the singer-turned politician was planning to hold his first ever consultation. According to Police, the singer did not meet the conditions set by the Electoral Commission of Uganda
