In a press conference held yesterday, People Power spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi tasked police to avail the CCTV footage that captured deceased Makerere University student, Emmanuel Tegu being beaten by residents of Lumumba as they (Police) claim which left him severely injured before he passed on.
Regardless of the fact that police spokesperson Fred Enanga told the press on Monday that the student was beaten by a mob, relatives to the deceased still insist that he(Tegu) confessed to have been battered by Local Defense Unit Personnel ‘in uniforms’ before he breathed his last.
“According to the deceased’s family, Emmanuel told them just before he died that he was beaten by LDUs. In law there’s something called a dying declaration, which is admissible as evidence in court that can be corroborated, so this should be put into consideration during investigations.” Ssenyonyi said
“Enanga said that there’s CCTV footage from St. Augustine Student’s Centre, let the footage be availed so that Emmanuel’s family and the country at large gets to know what really happened. We want justice for Emmanuel, plus all other Ugandans who have died in disturbing circumstances.” He added
Enanga told the public that there are CCTV camera recordings from St. Augustine’s church in Makerere that captured everything as it happened the night of the incident although he didn’t disclose the video recording to the media.
Family and relatives to the deceased have since, criticised the police for what they call ‘doctoring’ the investigations to put themselves (police) in favor of the case.
