Led by Obed Obedgiu Derrick , an aspiring Makerere University Guild President, students from the biggest public university in Uganda have threaten to camp at Uganda Police Forces Headquarters in Naguru demanding justice for Emmanuel Tegu’s death.
The students will be joined by former researcher Dr. Stella Nyanzi to take Tegu’s red gown to Police and sleep there for one week. Stella Nyanzi and students still blame LDUs for Tegu’s murder, despite Police’s latest statement that he was killed by private security guards and youthful Makerere residents.
“We are taking Tegu’s bloodied university gown to the impotent leaders of Uganda. We are going to sleep in the faces of these leaders for a whole week. We demand for justice for Tegu,” Nyanzi’s statement reads in part.
According to Obedgiu, Makerere has been known for not remaining silent on things that matter as he vowed to keep that habit.
“On Monday we shall deliver our brother Tegu’s bloodied red gown and a copy of our petition to the Police Headquarters , Naguru. We shall camp there for one week,” Obedgiu vowed in a Facebook Post.
On top of demanding justice for Tegu’s death, the group has launched a campaign to have the LDU fully disbanded following many complaints about the unit.
Tegu succumbed to injuries of a beating he went underwent after being rushed to Mulago Hospital, where he breathed his last.
