Jemimah Jehopio, a third-year Law student of Uganda Christian University (UCU), won 42 other competitors in the 18th International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) essay competition of 19 East African universities.
Upon her victory, she was awarded a sum of shs1.4m cash prize, a certificate of participation and ICRC offered her a scholarship to undertake a course in International Humanitarian Law from an institution in Kenya.
She was shrilled with the awards especially undertaking the course which she commented on saying that she is so passionate about humanitarian law because it deals with groups of vulnerable people which she looks at through a humanitarian perspective which is something that inspired her to take part in the competition.
She attributes her victory to God, her lecturers who are her mentors and the law experiences which built her personality and quest for knowledge.
