In a letter addressed to Makerere University newly admitted students as well as continuing students, the institution’s Academic Registrar Mr. Alfred Masikye Namoah informed them that the earlier announced dates for reopening are tentative.
According to Masikye, the earlier proposed orientation that was supposed to kick off on 30th January 2021 is also tentative as they await for more instructions from the government of Uganda.
“This is to inform you that the fresher’s orientation program and registration for non-finalists which was supposed to start on 30th January 2021 is tentative.” Part of the letter reads.
Masikye, who didn’t communicate the exact dates further advised students to wait for the government to reopen schools that have been denied to operate since March 2020 in a bid to slow the spread of the deadly COVID-19.
“You should therefore wait for government of Uganda directive/guidelines on the official opening of Higher Education Institutions.” The letter reads further.
Following yesterday’s communication from the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) that only finalists are allowed to resume, Makerere students are wondering whether the newly promoted students count as finalists given the fact that former finalists are done with studies and are currently awaiting graduation.
