After being shocked by the dilapidated halls of residence in Makerere and Kyambogo Universities, the Minister of Education and Sports Hon. Janet Kataaha Museveni has ordered all universities and schools to paint their old buildings ahead of reopening.
“Try and paint all our schools both primary and secondary, including universities, so that they look clean and attractive for our learners” Kahaaha said
It should be recalled that Kataaha visited the halls of residence in what was termed at “impromptu on-spot inspection” aimed at assessing the current status of accommodation for students in higher institutions.
The Minister suggested that there should be routine maintenance of all public facilities in learning institutions instead of waiting for buildings to get spoilt first.
The First lady’s visit was also a move aimed at inspecting the halls whether they can accommodate students well in this COVID-19 period ahead of planned reopening scheduled for March 1st.
Following Kataaha’s directive, some heads of schools recently appeared on NTV where they complained that schools are financially struggling and therefore painting may not be affordable. The head teachers also revealed that they were ready to open for all students as they cried out over a staggered manner, which they believe will land them into losses as they need the same operational costs to teach.
