Campus Bee has received reports of a former student at Entebbe based Nkumba University, Mr. Job Arinaitwe who has filed a case at the high court, suing the institution for “delaying his graduation” for three years.
Mr. Arinaitwe, in his court affidavit, contends that he fulfilled all the requirements in accomplishment of the Bachelors of Science in Computer Degree, only for his graduation to be delayed by the University despite making numerous efforts to petition the institution’s administration over the matter. The student indicates that the University ignored his grievance.
“I religiously paid my tuition fees for six semesters (three years) and was subsequently issued with a receipt and examinations permit by the respondent’s Finance Department and administrative officers… I sat and passed all my examinations at the respondent university and was subsequently issued with a statement of results on 7th September 2019 awaiting graduation later the same year,” the student asserts in his suit.
The court documents indicate that the plaintiff further wrote to National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) over the same, after he missed graduation on October 26, 2019. In action to the matter, NCHE wrote to the University demanding explanations regarding the student’s frustrations.
The University reportedly claimed that the student had not cleared his tuition and finances at the University, which Arinaitwe says was maliciously done because the same University had earlier sent notifications of receipt for the tuition payment.
The former student now demands that court reverses the University’s verdict and award him compensation for the legal costs, damages for the missed job opportunities and promotions and be awarded his Bachelor’s degreefollowing his graduation set-back.
The case hearing is slated for August 20, 2021.
