Following a petition by several Makerere University GRCs calling for the resignation of the Guild Speaker, Kamukama Godfrey Frank, he has resigned and a new Speaker has taken over. Kamukama was forced out of office due to retakes.
The university Guild Constitution states that students with retakes are not allowed to take over any guild leadership office.
According to a letter from the university Dean of Students, Winifred Kabumbuli, Kamukama has resigned from the mentioned position and Ms Angel Kampi, who has been serving as the Deputy Speaker is the new Guild Speaker of the 86th government.
“This is to inform you that Mr. Kamukama Godfrey resigned yesterday 20th September as the Speaker of the 86th Student Guild. Ms. Angel Kampi, the Deputy Guild Speaker assumes office with immediate effect.” Kabumbuli’s letter reads in part.
Some GRCs accused the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe of deliberately favouring Kamukama since he was a staunch ally to the administration. Apparently, Kamukama was one of the students that supported the cumulative tuition policy.
