Following President Museveni’s directive of Universities opening starting November 1, as a top priority, the continuing first year students (freshers) are set to report first, according sources at the education ministry.
This move will aim at minimizing congestion owing to the fact that another batch of first years (current senior six leavers) are expected to join campus early next year. Pushing the current year ones will create space, according to the ministry’s spokesperson – Dr Dennis Mugimba.
“We have held meetings with universities and they have all agreed that contuining first year stdents will return first. These will progress to second year to create room for the incoming senior six leavers” Dr. Mugimba explained.
Selection for incoming First year students (current senior six leavers)
The selection process for Universities and tertiary institutions is expected to be done in the first week of October, the Ministry has hinted.
Dr Mugimba warned higher institutions against admitting new students before the ministry releases a roadmap/calendar for the next academic year. However, a number of institutions have kicked off the applications/admissions for the next batches of entrants.
