This week’s MCM is a notable Makerere University Literature student. Here are some highlights from a conversation with the active gentleman.

Who are you?
I am Benjamin Nasaasira, a third year Literature and English teacher trainee at Makerere University. I am a writer, humanitarian, climate activist and political strategist.

I am the founder of “Environment Fresh ,” an organization that focuses on protecting the environment; natural vegetation in particular, forests and water bodies. I believe we only have one earth and it’s upon us to protect our home,” earth”.

Under Environment Fresh, we promote the other measures of fuel conservation like use of biogas so we can protect trees from being cut to curb desertification, concentration of dangerous gases in the atmosphere and also promote life since trees are sources of oxygen for breathing in and good health. At Environment Fresh our slogan is, “Every tree matters!”

I am the sales manager of TAL YOUTH UGANDA. TAL is all about skilling, mentorship and empowering employment in the youth and my role as the sales manager is to hold the business activities and marketing of the organization and we are working at a steady progress.

I serve as the Public Relations Officer LITASS – the association of Literature Students in Makerere University and as the PRO, I have worked tirelessly together with the whole committee to ensure we serve the interests of the students. I am currently at Makerere University as a Literature teacher Trainee.

Who have been your strongest influencers in life?
I am always inspired by people who do not give up, who do not hurt others to make a path for themselves, those who respect their families and hard working people.

What led you to your career?
The love to enlighten the world led me to the teaching profession. I can preach positivity to the young generations to prepare them for their future. I love Sharing what I know with others.

How would friends and acquaintances describe you?
As a person who is ready to build someone’s weakness into strengths, a friend who doesn’t despise anyone’s efforts, a lover of positivity and an ambitious young gentleman.

What are you most proud of accomplishing?
My dream is being a symbolic figure and a motivation for the hopeless because my life has been full of struggles but I am registering success each and everyday.

What would you do differently if you had a chance?
I would immediately change the Education system of our nation. It trains more job seekers yet the creators are very scare. It’s more of theory and one can’t apply the acquired knowledge anywhere. Our system should be purely hands on.

Describe a scene of your vision for the future.
A very happy and respectful family and a hard working society.

What message do you leave for the young gentlemen of your age.
A positive mind can never fail. A positive mind doesn’t give up, doesn’t hold grudges, doesn’t have time for hatred and it’s always focused on success.
Let people reject you, let them despise you, look down up on you, underrate you, but keep focused. The results will prove a point.
