Shocking news from Northern Uganda’s Gulu University indicates that over 30 University chickens went missing from the University laboratory earlier this week.
According to a source at the university, the thugs climbed over the walls to access the birds and stole several units of research samples, including 33 chickens meant for research purposes from the Faculty of Agriculture’s chicken pen. It is said that some students hold spare keys to the laboratory and the chicken coop.
Mr. Geoffrey Beyihayo Akiiki, a staff member at the university’s department of Animal Production in the Faculty of Agriculture, said they noticed that birds were missing on Tuesday morning.
He appealed to the public to desist from eating these birds because they were injected with harmful chemical for human consumption.
“We brought these chickens from different parts of the country to experiment to study the DNA of these local chickens to see if they can improve their productivity and growth to boost poultry production in the region,” he requested.
Police have started investigations into the matter and have summoned three students of Gulu University to help in the search.
