Inspired by his uncle who is one of the most popular hair stylists majoring in dreadlocks in western region, Asiimwe Jeromy aka Jero a third year MUST student pursuing a Bachelors of Science in Procurement and Supply Chain Management started hair dressing and he started as a volunteer at his uncle’s salon in first year.
The 23 year old young entrepreneur was forced to go into the work world after her single mother failed to raise his functional fees, hostel fees and upkeep. He believes that his prayers together with the mum’s made him prosper and reach to a better place of his career.
After a long period of struggle indecently without a permanent location, Jero was able to get enough money to establish his own salon in the heart of Mbarara City, main street close to Mbarara Diagnostic Laboratory and opposite Cafe Havana.
He has been also able to build his brand “Hair by JERO” and he gets most of his customers from the students at MUST. He had to perfect and prove to everyone that he’s worth their money. His success has been thorough Inspiring fellow students to do whatever they can that can at least lift their standards however bad or nasty it may be.
It’s always hard to balance books and work but this student has tried his level best to balance it as he also has never got any retake since his career. His role models are Zziwa of the Hair By Zziwa fame from Kampala and his own uncle, Isma of Esmart Salon in Mbarara.
When we asked him about his advice to the youths and fellow students he said you don’t have to wait for school to get done for you to think about your future or have millions of money to start a business, volunteer.
“I am currently training another student in year one, so sharing a skill you have is one blessing you can get from God.” He said.
