The concept of work-study balance has been an ongoing struggle amongst university students but only a few can watch out for signs of burn out and prosper at both callings.
Masibo Janat is a third year Journalism and Communication student at Makerere University who will stop at nothing but hustle her creativity out to achieve excellence at both her job and studies.
Just like not every talent is inborn but acquired, Janat through a friend learnt how to make clutch-like bags in her free time with which she started making profits after selling each bag at UGX. 30.000 among her network of friends.
Balancing both work and school has never been easy but inspirations like finishing school at whatever cost drove Janat’s will to aspire beyond many unemployed minds out there waiting for collar jobs at their disposal. She then upgraded with selling casual dresses for casual functions. Oh yes! She sells daddies too.
Challenges
She fails to get customers sometimes, and not forgetting that people want to buy items at very low prices which puts her business at a risk of incurring losses.
Benefits
Janat has been able to pay a half of her tuition and as well afford basic needs every girl of her age would want.
Future prospects
The sky is the limit for Janat. With her promising savings account, she is positive that in the near future her boutique yet to put up will be a venue for Africa’s fashion and style shows and events.
