Being a t campus and being a DJ at the same time is not an easy thing. Also being a DJ in Uganda may also not be easy because not everyone will like your music and you will not be well-known by people in the industry, but Kevin and Poss are showing that it is possible.
Kevin who goes by the DJ name Stylas and Poss who goes by the DJ name ShyKiller, didn’t walk a smooth path to get to where they have reached now. They have and had to jump plenty of hurdles in order to get their names out there.
DJ Stylas real names Mwesigwa Kevin is a 22-year-Old Information Technology (IT) student of Ndejje University Kampala Campus while DJ ShyKiller real names Nareeba Poss is a student of Business Administration at MUBS-Nakawa. The duo is known to speak the same language with turn tables and mix tapes than with books.
Their passion for music and the influential family musical background led them to achieve their dreams of becoming DJs. To them other than becoming the usual musician and rappers they ventured into something different.
Just like any struggling artist, they faced various hardships such as lack of tuition fees, lack of pocket money and less pay than expected, though their main challenge is the lack of motivation by club promoters, so they had to sort themselves out independently without having to run to their families.
When it comes to money, they don’t do that bad. Every night deejaying they earn up to 200k and in case of private gigs and promotion events they earn up to 600k which to them is much better than just sitting around.
At the moment, DJ ShyKiller and Stylas host the famous Campus Night at the Hive Club in Mukono every Friday, it’s no wonder all the UCU hot babes seem to have fallen prey to their live mix and fancy lifestyle. Some of the girls are often hard saying DJ Shykiller and his mix will provoke your grandmother to abandon her walking stick.
when it comes to balancing books and work, the two claim that they prefer to read the night before and since they have classes in the morning, it’s easier. The good thing is the DJ gigs are not on the daily.
Despite being campusers, the Duo at the moment is the most talented and Best Young Deejays in East Africa. They are currently in connection with a Jamaican Promoter to do an online show and probably reach out to the Jamaican fan Base and Artists. This November they are set to fly to Jamaica in order to set up some gigs.
The two are doing all they can to achieve big and get the best out of their talent.
