Mutes Jumiaparl is 2nd year Makerere University student who is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Arts (Philosophy) . Jumiaparl, who did a short course in Fashion and Hairdressing back in 2015 is changing the game by offering mobile services in hair dressing.
According to Jumiaparl, she has been grinding for six years and her experience has helped her gain more clients despite the challenges that come with it.
“I did a short course of fashion and hair dressing under certificate in 2014 and 2015 during a school break due to health problems . Later I got back to high school and worked in different places during holidays to gain experience. I now have 6 years of experience my services are mobile and my labour starts at 25k for kids and 30k adults.” Jumiaparl told Campus Bee.
While talking about how she managed to get clients, Jumiaparl confessed that her business was greatly influenced by her family and friends, who connected her to their family and friends as well. She’s now considered to be a prudent hairdresser that Makerere students run to whenever they need her services.
“My family and friends have always been my first set clients that did connect to theirs friends and friends of their friends I have been able to fulfil my needs as young woman and perhaps as a student. The fact that I meet up with different people, I have made great friends that become family and promoted my business .” she said.
Despite running a a steadily growing business, Jumiaparl narrates that she sometimes face changes with clients who sometimes make bad choices. She reflects on the trouble she goes through while trying to convince them to make better choices.
“I also find challenges though catches two sides, me as a service provider especially with time keeping though this comes in due to traffic jam since I do mobile services and at times the delay of clients to confirm their orders and also some clients make order choices that will turn up as a disappointment and really convincing them to what is best is hard.” Jumiaparl added.
The Optimistic Jumiaparl, who can now visualize her future as a successful fashion entrepreneur has some advice for fellow campusers. She urges students to utilize the internet at the same time have clear dreams before meeting people who will want them in their lives.
“In future I see myself owning a big brand in the fashion industry because I believe I can . My message to my fellows is never be discouraged or even be moved by little things, make sure before anyone makes you their dream person, you must first become a woman or man of your dream and they should learn to discover their talent and always make good use of people that they meet in life.” She advised.
“Make good use of internet for example different fashion styles come every day and you will not go back to the college again but rather online trainings like on YouTube, Pinterest and others” she advised further.
Despite being creative and hardworking, Jumiaparl is the true description of “no man is an island”, therefore she has a team that has helped her to visualize and make her dream come true, Pastor Wilson Bugembe is one of them.
“Appreciation goes to Pastor Wilison Bugembe that sponsored my course and to Praize Atwin for making sure this come true then to all my clients family and friends.” Concludes Jumiaparl.
