“The education system is not the problem and it has nothing to do with our poverty but our mindsets are the ones to blame,’ read a post on a Facebook by a prominent satirist. Well I picked more sense to that and today’s hustler was hand-picked to suit the post.
For Shylock Arinaitwe, 22, a second year Computer Science student at Uganda Martyrs University, Nkozi, he didn’t have to wait to hit higher standard of education to realize what he can productively do. He is a self-taught computer programmer who is a pro at System designs with a variety of computer knowledge. “I deal in system designs, web designs, online & media marketing”, starts Arinaitwe.
His journey dates way back in Senior two when he tasked his mindset with creativity and it developed the love for creating things from scratch. “I was interested in the case how things were made in the backend rather than merely seeing them happen,” he remarks.
His biggest achievement is designing the micro finance software to track loans and client’s account details.
With this tremendous growth in passion, he created simple webpages after an epic research he subjected himself to. “By the end of my senior six, I had already advanced and enriched himself with programming languages like visual basic and php as a scripting language.”
“I was motivated by the fact that I was more interested in the back end of everything related to the web. Luckily enough, I only needed my skills and efforts together to start up my business,” he explains.
Challenges
Arinaitwe recounts facing a hard time convincing clients that he would actually develop systems as regards to their needs, but with time, they come back convinced after referring to his previous works from other clients.
He also adds that the gadgets he needed to learn the best applications are very expensive and he has got to save quite a lot to acquire them
Achievements
After a remarkable hustle, The Mbarara based lad amicably now smiles on after his efforts finally paid off. My greatest achievement is when I worked on a functional financial system that to date is proving to help my client more than his expectations”, notes a jovial Arinaitwe.
He also feels humbled by the fact that he has now secured office space around town and can ably run his business solutions starting February.
Asked about his earnings, Arinatitwe intimated to Campusbee that his earning depends on the orders that he has got on table each month. “In a good month, I can gather 1.5m on collective projects. I can make up to shs2m if the project is kind of huge. So the earning varies,” he explains.
To Arinatiwe, inspirational quotes and motivational talk are the reasons he constantly gets motivated and less depressed to hang on with the hustle.
“I’m one of those that is moved by inspirational quotes. When I find lots of difficulty, I usually refer to the famous quotes by people like Albert Einstein, Og Mandino, Denis Whitley and not forgetting advice from a few friends,” denotes a calm voiced Arinaitwe.
From his earnings, he usually takes care of his upkeep and saving is at its best especially this time when he needs to get this whole venture registered and make it legit. Asked how he doubles his hustle alongside campus, the seemingly humble Arinatwe reveals to Campusbee that he reads his books and endeavors to complete assignments. ‘This gives me more freedom to do my work because I give priority to both,’ he chips in.
Future prospects
A glance into what he intends to do in the near future, Arinatwe went like, “I plan on expanding the business though my entire plan is focused on enabling my clients derive value from their investment in information technology so that they can become more successful in their core activities”.
He describes is hustle in five words as “I dare to try the impossible!”
