By far the hardest time in any learner’s life is that period as they await graduation. Not just because they are trying to shape their future but also because parents are not sending any upkeep anymore.
“It is hard to convince a parent to send you some money when it is in their mind that you have completed Campus” Patrick Noowe noted.
“They don’t care whether you have graduated or not. In their mind, you have completed and earning should be with immediate effect” he added.
The reality, however, is that you have not really set yourself up fully for employment. Most employers want a full CV with all academic details. They want a transcript yet at that stage, you can only afford a testimonial so it is really hard to be employed in your line of study.
God bless Campus Bee, however, because today, we shall run you through money making opportunities that you could be undertaking as you await your inevitable graduation.
1. Agriculture
Of course, we have to begin with this. In as much as agriculture is an area of study and specialisation in Uganda’s education system, you don’t need that much complexity to undertake it. You probably even have relatives that have made a fortune out of agriculture yet the closest they have been to a class was during their catechism class.
So as you await graduation, especially those of you that take half a year to graduate, one season of farming can make ends meet for you.
2. Freelance Writing
What am I doing? Freelance writing. Am I getting paid for it? Damn right, I am. It isn’t really hard when you enjoy it.
If your command of the English-language is good and you don’t suck at putting your thoughts on paper, you should consider becoming an online freelance writer. Even without any real writing experience, there are many jobs available for amateur writers online and you can make a reasonable income from the comfort of your home.
3. Digital Marketing
You have thousands of followers and generate lots of engagement on your Instagram account but you have never thought about using your account to make money, what a waste!
Digital Marketing involves among others social media marketing that I just described using your dormant Instagram account and Search Engine Optimization (SEO).
SEO is the process of optimising a client’s website to rank as highly as possible in Google and other search engines for keywords that are related to the content on the website and it isn’t very hard to understand if you have put in an effort to grasp.
4. Transport
If you can find a taxi or a boda-boda, it is also good business but I meant executive transport which can sustain your slaying tendencies in case you feel it is uncool to yell “Kamwokya-Bukoto-Ntinda” every day from sunrise to sunset.
According to Taxify for instance, you can earn up to UGX 250,000 weekly in profit if you undertake their executive transport sector. Is there a car at home spending days parked? Get a driving licence and make money. Your parents will be glad if you raise money for your own graduation.
5. Ushering and modelling
Ushering is an art. You cannot light up an event as an usher when you are always gloomy and inhospitable. That is why it is highly recommended for the very social and all smiles persons because by smiling at guests at an event, you are adding value to it and making people realise value for their money.
Even when girls prosper the most in it, it is a gender open gig because boys can as well usher at an event as long as they present themselves smartly and are social.
Modelling is a fast growing industry in Uganda and just like ushering, it is not gender restrictive since male and female models are all needed.
If you can find a category among the enlisted gigs that you can prosper in, by the time you graduate, you will have enough money to afford to invite me and my colleagues to your dinner.
