Mable Precious Twegumye Zake is the latest sensation from the political command center at NBS TV to dynamically grace our TV’s in the game of current affairs. She has been here for a while after she nailed the entertainment show Pundonor magazine. She sat down with our writer Enywaru Pius to narrate her campus memories.
Hello, Mable
Hello Pius, hope you are doing well.
Who is Mable?
I am Marble Precious Twegumye Zake, a new brand from the old entertainment queen to the new current affairs lady. I started my journey to fame when I brought Pundonor Magazine under the act name Precious TM. I have since then changed and now am a fast growing brand in current affairs.
Which University did you go to and what course did you offer?
I went to Makerere University where I did a bachelor’s In Mass Communication with majoring in broadcast. I’ve always loved to work on radio but somehow TV is eating me up. I have put radio on hold now as I focus on my TV career. I’ve done so because I believe the voice never grows old and the groove continues to spark in me.
Share with us your campus experience
*She poses and smiles in amazement……” What can I say? Campus to me was a spectacular experience or you can say amazing and wild. Attending parties all night long, showing up for lectures while tired. I was a celebrity at campus while working at NBS on my entertainment show. Because I was in the spotlight, I got exclusive access to all parties around Kampala and me and my friends always had the most of life.
What was you most memorable moment at Campus?
I remember when I had just reported to Campus, I learnt that they had a radio station within campus and for me that was the tick. I walked right into the station and asked for a chance to be on radio because it was so much passionate about radio since childhood. I remember pleading with John Baptist Imokola for a chance because first years were not allowed. I was eventually allowed and a few years down the road, am now ticking and surprisingly the very John Baptist is my boss now at NBS TV.
How did you manage juggling campus academics and that lifestyle?
I am a well brought girl who manages her obligations very well. I was brought up in such a way that I forget my responsibilities when I have to. I knew which time to do what, for me it was always discussion groups that made it for me. The like of Asiimwe Collins, Edgar R. Batte and Josephine Karungi are some of the people that helped see me through. Surprisingly I was even the class representative in my time.
Did you ever get a retake?
Yes I did get a retake while at campus. I very well remember it was a course work test that brought it all. However, I did the retake and managed to successfully graduate to the amazement of many. Many thought with my kind of lifestyle I would not graduate but I eventually did.
What was your favorite hangout spot in and outside campus?
It was always the campus radio station studios, the diners that had the light food and of course the lecture rooms. Outside campus, for me it wasn’t a shoot for the Pundonor episode, it was having crazy gigs with the gals and chilling at my hostel
What was your high and low moment while at campus?
My high moment was me landing the Pundonor job on NBS at a time no one knew me. Getting access to any event was hard because I was not known at all. I had to hustle to get Pundonor to the level that everyone knows it. Seeing it where it is and seeing Agatha doing a good job humbles me.
My low moment was when I was robbed clean of everything in my hostel. I had gone back home for the weekend and I received a call only to be told that I was robbed. Everything was taken and had to start from scratch. This moment really threw me back and it was terrible on my side.
Did you ever run broke while at Campus and how did you deal with it.
I can’t say I ran plain broke while at Campus because I was earning something as I was at Campus from my work at NBS. This kept me moving along with the upkeep that my parents gave me. I was good to go.
Tell us about your dating/love life while at Campus
Ha! Do I really have to tell even that? (It’s a memory we would love to hear about too, I interrupt). Can’t we skip that? I insist….. Okay I dated while at campus and I believe anyone at this stage should date. Unlike others, I was straight forward and open minded. If I didn’t like you, I would tell you straight away. However, dating while at Campus was a good feeling I must say.
How did you deal with the crushes that came along being celebrity at a tender?
Like I told you Pius for me it was my straightforwardness, if I didn’t like you, I would let you know. Of course crushes came in constantly but being a class leader, I interacted with everyone and I was always a busy lady at campus.
Why did you suddenly change from entertainment to covering politics and current affairs?
Well, I’ve always seen myself as a versatile being. I always wanted to try out news and when I saw it that I had archived something in Entertainment, then was the ripe time to shift. If I had skipped that chance to rock at entertainment, I would have felt incomplete and sad, however I got a chance and nailed it. I am now focusing on bringing the news to the people which is working.
Why did you change the name Precious TM?
Precious TM was an entertainment name. The TM is an Initial of my names Twegumye Mable and surely my bosses didn’t buy the idea of me rolling with it. So I had to drop it for my real names while on the set and I am happy about it
What’s your message to the young minds that look up to you for inspiration?
Well, it’s all about patience and that’s all I can tell them. If you are a patient person you will get to where you want to. And for me It’s has always been passion. The passion that has driven me has seen me this far. The people here at NBS TV too are amazing that’s why we are the best TV right now. This environment is good for anyone to work from because the people here are amazing.
Finally, I have a new baby! People and Power is my new show on NBS TV that airs every Saturday. This is me trying to impact on the people’s lives out there. I want to tell stories of those different individuals that have made it life and how they have made it.
