Digital Opportunity Trust Uganda (DOT Uganda) seeks to recruit highly competent and self-driven youth for a six months facilitation program (September 2015– February 2016) that will give the selected young people a unique opportunity to work with DOT Uganda to sharpen their skills and prepare for future careers while working within their communities. DOT’s key focus is to train young people to become business coaches and mentors in their communities, supporting emerging local entrepreneurs.
DOT Uganda recruits and empowers young University graduates (Field Facilitators) strengthening their business, technology and coaching skills and deploy them to partner community based organizations to help improve the technology knowledge and business acumen of owners of small businesses that are developing, under stress or in transition in local communities.
Successful Community Facilitators will undergo intensive training to prepare them to deliver DOT’s StartUp! Program in the local communities of Gulu district within selected rural communities to farmer groups. Throughout their placement, they will also receive professional development opportunities that will equip them with desirable skills to enter the workforce as talented, experienced, and in-demand professionals.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
- Facilitate the DOT Enterprise program (StartUp!) to youth & women – farmer groups transitioning in the local communities;
- Conduct business coaching for program beneficiaries and make regular follow ups;
- Facilitate business linkages between program participants and various business value chains;
- Administer monitoring & evaluation tools and supervise correct data gathering from the participants & community based hosting partners;
- Take responsibility in scheduling training dates, time and venue for program participants;
- Prepare and present field reports to the respective supervisors;
- Regularly share blogs and field stories on the DOT intranet;
- Carry out at least one community development project during their internship tenure;
- Perform any other extra duty assigned.
DOT Uganda is recruiting for internship opportunities from amongst DOT Alumni interns and DOT Alumni participants, preferably with the capability to communicate in the local language.
What we are looking for; The Prospective DOT Field Facilitator should;
- Be a DOT Alumni intern / participant.
- Be a resident of Gulu or be willing to relocate to Gulu and be deployed in any of the sub-counties we shall select. He / She should be able to communicate in the local language.
- Be a university or college graduate. Having graduated between 2012 and 2015 with a Bachelor’s degree preferably Bachelor of Commerce, Economics or a business related course / diploma;
- Must have experience and knowledge in running a business. Preferably he/she should have a running business;
- Demonstrated ability to create business networks and linkages;
- Have ability/passion to coach peers;
- Creative/innovative – able to develop new and unique ways to improve the way young people view and do business;
- Have a good understanding of youth and gender issues;
- Community mobilization and capacity building skills;
- Be a comfortable user of Computer applications;
- Microsoft office suite; Browser and Social media Be prepared to work in a fast – paced team environment; Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Acholi;
- Be able to commit to DOT Uganda for a 6 months full-time position;
- Be aged between 21 and 29 years;
- Good interpersonal skills and presentation skills, proactive, initiative and a team player;
- Willing to undergo intensive training;
- Flexible and willing to work in rural / remote parts of Gulu and neighboring districts..
- Should be ready to start training by 7th September 2015
- Should have access to Internet.
