It is always a tough time after completing University in the Ugandan economy but this might not be the case for two Kyambogo University graduates; Muhindo Anthony and Alineitwe Ian. During the first lockdown in April 2020, these two birthed an idea of starting a cleaning services company over whatsapp texts which is now called A and A Cleaning Services.
“We developed the idea after long months of lockdown that were not ending yet we became too idle. We realized that a few youths were venturing into this business, yet many people were in need of cleaning services,” says Anthony.
The cleaning services they offer include office cleaning, wall cleaning, compound cleaning, couch cleaning and all other kinds of cleaning you can ever know. Asked about what it took them to start the business, Ian said;
“Capital is always the hardest obstacle amongst the youths. We had to save from the little allowances we were getting from our parents plus the odd jobs we kept going for as we hustled during our next campus days as well as seek support from family and friends to buy the equipment. All I can say is that we haven’t gone far, but so far so good…We have been able to get several clients already and we always do our best whenever we find work.”
Regarding the future prospects, Anthony quickly revealed that their focus now is on securing more contracts with many companies.
“Having many contracts means that we will have to get a bigger team and there we will be helping solve unemployment. It’s really hard out there and we want to play our role in solving this unemployment problem. We are also planning to open up a professional website as well as get serious with social media because we want to also tap those clients who might want to use the virtual world to reach us.”
Arineitwe Ian recently graduated with a Bachelor’s in Oil and gas while Muhindo Anthony graduated in Accounting and Finance.
