Meet Dunamis Ssentamu from UCU, the next big thing in stand-up comedy

Meet Ssentamu Phyllip Lutakome a.k.a Dunamis, UCU’s true definition of comedy. He’s a new face in the scene with a new style of charm, blended jokes catalyzed with incredible funny actions. Actually, just a mere look at Ssentamu’s ‘Besigye’ eyes is a clear sign he’s comedy himself.
Known with his stage name Dunamis, Ssentamu is a simple dude with a passion of making people happy. Just a minute spent with this dude is enough to leave your ribs aching. Ssentamu is a finalist offering Mass Communication at Uganda Christian University in Mukono. He is perhaps one of the few known campus students doing standup comedy in Uganda.

Just one year and half in the comedy game, Ssentamu has set up online comedy shows on YouTube called Room 47 and has shared comedy stage performances in the famous Comedy file series at Theatre Labonita. His show ‘Room 47’ airs current issues in Uganda in satirical way. He can crack jokes about everything, from sagging empty milk less boobs of UCU bebs to the oversized suit worn by M7.

Dunamis first had his first stand up show at theatre Labonita then later did shows at Anne Knasiime’s bar. To him, these were stepping stones and greater things are on their way. He currently got signed to a company that produces and directs his comedy videos for Room 47.

When asked about challenges in the game, he says Ugandans have not yet fully embraced comedy. A lot needs to be done to wider the market not only in terms of money but interest too. Dunamis plans to do a one man’s show in coming years as well as doing greater shows within Uganda so that he’s actually felt as one of the funniest dudes around.
