Makerere University never ceases to amaze, at least not in this generation where being funny (comic) is an added advantage.
Everything is somewhat a joke nowadays, and we are all happy – or pretending to be. Kasumba will usher us into the news with a little drama so we smile before the accident story pops up.
Speaker Anita Among has also mastered the art of cracking up parliament, and NUP’s Zaake will laugh before she can begin to speak. Whatever he laughs at, only he knows best.
Makerere University seems to be following the trend. It even has a tiktok account and someone is paid to create entertaining content there.
I don’t know who scripted the extension(s) for Makerere University’s 74th graduation, but I must say he is a bad cook.
On Friday, Makerere University rescheduled her 74th graduation for the third time in a row. However genuine the reason may have been, no professional cook would risk angering hungry clients.
The last (I meant latest) extension comes barely a month after the second. At least even our mothers at Nakasero market saw this one coming since one of the graduation dates fell on a rather sensitive public holiday.
Makerere’s vice chancellor has no reasonable justification for the latest extension. He says the extension is a result of continuous engagement with various stakeholders who raised concerns about the graduation dates.
For the second extension, the rationale was rather ironic. The university claimed it was giving graduands time to clear pending dues. Anyway, the festive season was fast approaching; we all seem to be kind beings each time Mary gets labour pain.
It’s, however, hard explaining that an institution like Makerere University finds difficulty in scheduling a five-day graduation ceremony, yet it has had about six months to do so from the date the now graduands finished their finals.
For some graduands, like my good friend Nelson who has been on a countdown, their graduation appetite has begun to diminish.
Graduands, and their relatives, have to reschedule and recollect their excitement. But who is to compensate them for the damages caused?
