The second semester of the academic year is usually a very busy one characterized by intense political activities and serious academic affairs as the year comes to an end.
The fact that this time the semester is way shorter than ever due to unfavourable circumstances has caused a rush with the lecturers hurrying to finish the course outlines, coursework and tests already stressing the students and examinations in mid March.
Kyambogo university students find it very dismaying that there is no roadmap to the elections yet. The students are blaming the 17th Guild headed by Mbaziira John for failing to create and give the students this road map in time as the Electoral Commission has not yet been elected yet.
Usually, elections should take place within the first sixty-one days of the semester such that both the aspirants and voters can have ample time to focus on their academic affairs. But at the moment, all there is are false promises from the guild that the Electoral Commission is going to be elected.
Initially, 15th February was set as the day the guild should have had the Electoral Commission but this has not come to pass. The Aspirants are spending most of their time and financial resources campaigning and yet they do not know for how long they will keep on doing this or how much they might need to keep on convincing the students to vote them at a date unknown to everyone.
This has frustrated them beyond measure to the point that one of the aspirants had to write to the Guild President to address this matter in time at least by 15th February but the date has already gone by without a response.
The semester examinations are set to begin in mid March and the semester ends on 10th April. The students plead for the elections to be held early enough so that they can focus on the main issue which is academics.
