Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) witnessed a historic moment with the election of Daisy Arinda as its third female Guild President.
Arinda, a second-year Civil Engineer and independent candidate, secured victory in the 36th Guild election, marking a significant milestone for gender representation in student leadership.
Arinda’s remarkable achievement was announced on Friday, May 3rd, after she emerged victorious with an impressive tally of 1499 votes. Her landslide victory saw her surpassing her opponents, Joseph Kasitu of the Uganda Young Democrats (UYD) with 755 votes, and Wilson Mugazhu of the National Unity Platform (NUP) with 1199 votes.
Arinda’s victory not only reflects her personal achievements but also signals a positive step towards greater gender inclusivity and representation in student leadership roles.
In assuming her new role, Arinda pledges to prioritize the welfare and interests of MUST students, advocating for their needs and aspirations.
