The 33rd President of the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) is the new President of the Uganda National Students Association (UNSA).
Welunga won the seat today during the 32nd UNSA NEC held in all four regions namely Western , Eastern , Central and Northern Uganda.
Unofficial results indicate that Welunga managed to win in three regions namely Northern, Eastern and Central Uganda.
Speaking in an interview with Campus Bee recently, the UNSA President elect said he is ready to serve the students in Uganda diligently when voted into office.
He said students in Uganda have waited for so long and time is now to be served diligently.
“My aim is to make UNSA serve students from the grassroots level. I want to be a ladder for students in the country to realize their dreams through networking, scholarships among others,” he told Campus Bee.
Welunga said he will work collaboratively with the association’s Patron who is the President of Uganda General Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to serve students in all regions.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, UNSA delegates voted for the students’ leaders in their respective regions. The delegates are comprised of a Guild President, Guild Speaker, Female Guild Minister among others.
Welunga defeated Tumusime Benjamin from Makerere University, Tumwine Serge from Kyambogo University, and Arinda Osbert from Mountain of the Moon University.
Other students elected into new UNSA leadership are Julia Muhumuza from Makerere University Business School (MUBS) as Vice President, Roy Rugumayo from Makerere University as General Secretary and Agaba Mponda Keneth from Uganda Uganda Christian University as Speaker.
