It is today 2nd March 2022 when the Guild representative Councilors were being nominated for the elections due in exactly seven days. The day started with so much noise and excitement. Everyone was roaming about the compound like the lectures for the day had been cancelled and the GRC contenders were up and down making last minute preparations of the requirements required for their successful nominations.
As usual, the GRC contenders who very much like to be associated with the NUP party walked in large numbers everywhere waving the red and white striped umbrellas and blowing vuvuzelas as they accompanied their candidates to the nomination grounds.
All was normal and going on rather peacefully until around 1:00pm when the chaos began. Some of the GRC candidates hired drank campaigning agents who started fighting with their opponents and causing serious misunderstandings.
Some of these drank people were blocking other aspiring GRCs who came in cars. One GRC aspirant from School of Management and Entrepreneurship pretended to have fainted in the middle of the road, one of the reasons being because he wanted to attract attention.
He must have achieved his aim because so many people with such pity came to see what was really wrong. It is amazing how he thereafter stood up and walked away with strength and physical ability that people seemed to appreciate the power of miracles.
Large crowds of people seemed to attempt to cross the boundaries around the nomination grounds and having refused to listen to the warning, the people in charge found a solution to the adamancy. A few minutes after resounding the warning that people should keep a distance, quite a number of tear gas canisters burst in different places causing everyone to disappear in thin air.
In just a blink of an eye, there wasn’t anyone around the nomination grounds. It was astounding how there was such quiet and serenity in campus after a long period of deafening noise. Dismaying it was that this only lasted a few minutes and once again everyone magically reappeared, another miracle to be appreciated.
Situation returned to normal and this time round the crowd kept a distance from the nomination grounds. One of the female Guild Presidential Contenders, Hanifa Kasim, having lost the NUP flag bearer yesterday morning, has also been today nominated as the GRC private students.
We hope for a peaceful nomination and campaigns week.
