Ignatius Kangave, 23, a student of information technology and systems and grandson to deceased legendary politician Ignatius Kangave (IK) Musaazi is the newly elected guild president at Nkumba University.
Ignatius, who ran as an independent candidate having been defeated in the NRM primaries, was declared winner of the Nkumba University guild elections that were held on Saturday September 16th, 2023.
Ignatius emerged victorious after beating three opponents that is; Ruhinda Wilberforce (NRM), Nicklaus Musaasizi (NUP) and Kebirungi Friday (independent).
Ignatius pulled off a total of 256 votes from the 548 votes casted while his closest rival Ruhinda Wilberforce got 125 votes. NUP’S Nicklas got 99 and Kebirungi had only 66 votes cast in her favour.
Ignatius Kangave’s win has been attributed to the fact that he is a grandson to the late IK Musaazi with whom he shares a name.
IK Musaazi is one of Uganda’s greatest historical figures and he is remembered for having formed the first political party in Uganda the Uganda National Congress (UNC) in 1952. IK Musaazi died in 1990 but his legacy still lives on.
