Makerere University is preparing to welcome a new Guild government soon following the expiration of term of service for the 88th group.
The outgoing cohort was captained by H.E Alionzi Lawrence Dangote with assistance from a willing cabinet that included a one Nattabi Margaret who served as the Vice President.
With elections around the corner, Mr. Alionzi has come out to publicly recommend his former assistant to contest for the top students’ seat at the hill.
“In my arsenal of experience, I have come to be convinced that Guild Presidency at the Hill requires more than just physique but the strength of mind and heart that outweighs ideological differences, politically and socially. It’s not the aggression of character but the clarity of thought and purity of intentions to get the right thing done,” he justified.
“It’s against this background that, I hereby endorse H.E Nattabi Margaret (88th Vice Guild President) as the 89th Guild President of Makerere University.”
At the moment, the Guild activities are being run by the Electoral Commission (EC) partnering with the office of Dean of Students following the dissolution of Alionzi’s government.
Sooner than later, the EC will release the electoral roadmap that will pave way for new leadership.
Different political figures and clubs have already expressed interest, thus, it is no surprise that the outgoing leaders are having a say in the upcoming polls.
Despite the ban on partisan politics at Makerere, Alionzi and company continue to associate with the National Unity Platform (NUP) party that has become inseparable from Makerere elections for the past consecutive years.
Nattabi is expected to follow suit.
