Makerere University has officially kicked off its election season with a call for nominations to the 91st Students’ Guild Electoral Commission.
The announcement, made through the Office of the Dean of Students, marks the beginning of what promises to be a significant electoral cycle for the 2025/2026 academic year.
Dr. Winifred Kabumbuli, the Dean of Students, issued the official notice highlighting several key changes in this year’s electoral process.
Most notably, the university has introduced a strict no-payment policy, explicitly prohibiting any electoral-related fees from aspiring candidates at any level.
The nomination window is notably brief, running for just 48 hours from January 20th to January 21st, 2025, with a strict deadline of 11:59 PM.
All prospective candidates must comply with specific requirements outlined in Articles 11(b) and 8(b) & (c) of the Makerere University Students’ Guild Statute 2022.
Successful candidates who meet all nomination requirements will receive a Certificate of Eligibility from the Dean of Students, officially qualifying them to contest for their respective positions.
Candidates can access nomination forms and guidelines through the university’s official website, with all submissions required to be duly filled and signed before the deadline.
