Students of Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) have this morning stormed polling stations to choose their next Guild president.
Over 4000 students are expected to cast their votes in their respective faculty polling stations amidst tight security from the Uganda Police to avoid violence at the institution.
This year’s Guild presidential Elections attracted four candidates Mugenyi Jastus (NUP), Muyanja Isaac (IND), Beda Witness (NRM) and Mugambe Victor (UYD).
However, during the campaigns several camps have been attacking each other on allegations of swindling Guild money, changing of political parties among others. This was also evidenced in the open air campaigns where some candidates were accused of being university projects.
According to supporters, this has affected almost everyone in this race by losing supporters to their opponents of which these allegations have barely genuine sources.
The winner of today’s guild election will succeed Mariam Iculet Arikosi who served as the 31st Guild President of MUST.
