Lucky Ariho Rwabuturumba has been elected as the 37th Guild President of Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST).
Running on the National Unity Platform (NUP) ticket, Rwabuturumba secured a decisive victory with 2,150 votes in the guild elections held yestrday, 12th April.
His closest challenger, Henry Ssebyatika of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), garnered 1,451 votes.
Ssebyatika is a second-year Bachelor of Science with Education student.
The election results were officially announced by the university’s electoral commission after a competitive campaign period that engaged students across various faculties.
Rwabuturumba’s victory represents a significant achievement for NUP at one of Uganda’s premier institutions for science and technology education.
As the newly elected guild president, Rwabuturumba will succeed outgoing president Arinda Daisy, taking on student welfare responsibilities and coordinating various guild activities.
Rwabuturumba is a a fourth-year Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery student.
The formal handover ceremony from Arinda to Rwabuturumba is expected to take place in the coming weeks, following university protocols.
