Over the weekend, Nkumba University held students’ Guild elections to usher in new leadership.
The closely contested tussle was won by Toka Victor Given who was declared the new Nkumba University Guild President 2022-23.
The Electoral Commission, headed by Nduhura Jossy, had quite a task of ensuring a smooth process given the tautness of the race. .
Toka won with a tight margin, thanks to the 291 votes he collected out of the 1,200 valid votes cast.
National Resistance Movement’s Arthur Andweineho (NRM) was the first runner up with 278 votes, losing by just 13 votes.
Third place was occupied by National Unity Platform’s Ssemambo Morris (NUP) with 145 votes, followed by Amon Muhwezi (IND) with 144 votes.
Other candidates included Sharif Ssebina (IND) with 127 votes followed by Imran Lutakome (IND) with 111 votes, and Dan Ngirabakunzi who came last with 87 votes.
The election brought on-board Toka Victor Given, whose fandom craved for the hard-earned victory.
The Guild President-elect is pursuing a Bachelors of Arts in Public Relations and Management from the School of Social Sciences.
His manifesto was headlined by; Development and Cross-Cultural connections in Nkumba University.
He replaces NRM’s Lawrence Mushabe who’s victory a year ago broke records for NRM party candidates in Nkumba.
