2016 is promising to be a year filled with thrills and journeys; from our very own Presidential elections to those in the United States. 2016 is also unearthing blockbuster sequels for movies that managed to move our hearts and up our adrenaline with excitement. For the most part, sequels tend to be less of the originals but maybe these are the exception. Plus, we get to see the characters that made us fall in love with these series in the first place. Here’s a list of some of the biggest sequels coming to our tv screens this year.
Independence day resurgence (June 24th)
Remember the first Independence day movie in 1996 with Will Simth in the lead role? Well he isn’t returning for this part but most of former cast is.
At the end of Independence day we saw the last surviving aliens sending a signal to fellow aliens out of space. So in this sequel, two decades after the first Independence day invasion, earth is faced with a new- extra solar threat. Will mankind’s space defences be enough?
London has fallen (March 4th)
I personally fanned out when I heard Olympus has fallen was getting a sequel- for obvious reasons…Gerald Butler. (That Scott all day everyday) The plot revolves around the questionable death of the British Prime Minister and now leaders from all western countries are summoned to attend the funeral. The most important leaders in the world are now converged in one place just like their enemies want them. What starts out as a normal funeral, turns into a blood birth that Mike Banning (Butler) has to stop.
The mechanic: resurrection (August 26th)
I think we all agree the Jason Stathum in Spy was hilarious and entertaining but the unruly, killer machine Stathum… serves the best the action in the biz. In this sequel, Arthur Bishop(Jason Stathum ) has left his contracted assassin days behind him, untill some mecenaries rip the love of his life from him. He goes after these goons in attempt to rescue his love (Jessica Alba)all the while doing what his does best; making murders look like accidents.
Star Trek beyond(July 22nd)
If you are more of a Trek person as opposed to wars, then you must have your cinema money on lock down long enough till July 22nd. Captain James T. Kirk and his crew at the Enterprise are back. The Enterprise is attacked by unknown powerful aliens that force them into a foreign planet where they have to fight off an new villan and find all ways to get back to their home.
Teenage mutant ninja turtles: Out of the shadows. (June 3rd)
The ninja turtles are back with friends April( Megan Fox)and Vern( Will Arnett)where together with vigilante Casey, unite to fight the mutants their enemy Shredder has asked stockman to create. These new mutants are a deadly threat to the human race in New York City.
Captain America: Civil war. (May 6th)
Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) returns after the events from The Avengers: Age of Ultron. Due to the collateral damage caused by the avengers, a system of accountability and a governing body has been determined to contain the avengers. This has caused a misunderstanding between the avengers; one side being led by Steve Rogers wanting to work without regulation and other side led by Tony Stark who wants to follow the body’s regulations. The awesome bit about this third part, is the fact that we get to see Robert Downey Jr throw his arrogance and narcissism around.
Conjuring 2: The enfield poltergeist (June 10th )
Any horror fanatic with the thrill for occasional screams and goosebumps surely remembers the first movie; the Conjuring. It was hands down one of the most scary movies ever.
The second part revolves around a couple called the Warrens, who are paranormal investigators. They travel to England to investigate paranormal activity at a council house in London Borough of Enfield.
Fifty shades of Black (January 29th)
This is obviously not a sequel but its the next best thing to a sequel- a parody. A parody being a movie of comedic nature that mimcks the plot of original movies just to make them more hilarious and rib cracking. The king of parodies, Marlon Wayans stars as the lead role mimicking Christian Grey from Fifty shades of Grey. If you loved The hauted house, dance flick, movie 43 and the scream movies, you will definitely love this one.
Barber’s shop: The next cut. (April 15th)
I was quite young when the Barber shop series started but I remember the three movies being a big deal, and serving up a good comedic show. Calvin(Ice Cube) is back in the fourth movie and we get to see the trials and drama that goes on in his barber’s shop. After ten years, the cast is more diverse and starred. From Nicki Minaj to Tyga to Regina Hall to Mike Epps. If you’re a big fan of black American movies, this movies awesomeness is a no brainer.
Now you see me: The second act. (June 10th)
This movie was a bombshell, making magic tricks the coolest thing ever. Abracadabra. The whole team is back, from Mark Ruffalo to Woody Harrelson to Morgan Freman. Another addition to the cast is Daniel Radcliffe better known as Harry Porter. He’s the son to Arthur Tressler, the billionaire the four horsemen scumed in the first part. They stole his money and aided his imprisonment. His son is now on the mission to seek venge upon the four horsemen.
The Purge 3 (July 1st)
The huntsman: Winter’s tale (April 22nd)
Allegiant (March 18th)
Xmen Apocalypse (May 27th)
Underworld 5 (October 21st)
Kung-fu Panda 3 (January 29th )
Told ya, this year’s sequels are to die for.
