Ugandan music icon Juliana Kanyomozi has firmly denied allegations that she is the subject of a viral nude video making the rounds on social media. In a clear and composed statement released on Sunday morning, Juliana addressed the rumors head-on, dismissing the claims as baseless.
“There’s a random video doing rounds on social media, and those sharing it claim it’s me in it,” she stated. “I wish to inform the well-meaning public and my fans that I am not the person in that video. Neither do I know the malicious individuals behind it.”
The celebrated singer went on to distance herself from the scandal, urging her fans and the public to do the same. “I therefore disassociate myself from it and ask you, the general public and my fans, to do the same,” she added, shutting down the speculation.
This controversy emerges amid a growing trend in Uganda of leaked nude videos involving public figures, triggering widespread discussions on privacy and digital blackmail. Earlier this week, musician Gloria Bugie became the latest victim of revenge pornography, with her private videos surfacing online, allegedly leaked by a blackmailer. Gloria has since stated that police are investigating the matter.
The rising incidence of such cases brings renewed attention to Uganda’s Anti-Pornography Act (2014), which outlaws pornography in all forms, including online dissemination. Under the Act, the distribution of sexually explicit material without consent is strictly prohibited, with the law defining pornography as any form of representation of explicit sexual content.
As the scandal simmers, Juliana Kanyomozi remains resolute in defending her reputation, calling on her supporters to rise above the baseless rumours.
