He has featured here [on Campus Bee] before. (As a budding youngster.) It is now safe to report that Rad Ney, real name Rodney Nuwahereza is an established rap artist.
He is doing a Bachelors degree of Art and Industrial Design at Kyambogo University and is in his third year now. He is affiliated to rapper Ruyonga’s The Hidden Empire.
When we contacted him, he was really speechless.
“I feel appreciated that my music is being recognised by a big platform and awards committee” Rad Ney told our reporter.
He said, however, that he saw it coming considering that he knows his music is really good.
At the back of his mind also, he still holds his hometown (Mbarara) that he, in his own words, ‘hopes to put on the map’.
Rad Ney’s music is about positivity. He seeks to instill hope in people through music and empower the powerless and disadvantaged.
“I want to give back to the society that raised me with the little or plenty I got”, he added.
On being referred to as a gospel rap artist, Rad Ney denies that. He says he doesnt like to be limited to a specific genre because there are lots of things he can be and several messages he can pass on through his music.
“I am a versatile artist who is not just a rapper”, he asserted.
In a wrap [pun intended], he does positive music. Music that will inspire, uplift, or help someone pass through a situation.
You will not find him doing music about ‘how girls love him’, or ‘how much money he has on his bank account’. He calls that negative vibe in his mission.
“So I am just a positive artist.”
For the UG Hip Hop Awards, he was nominated in the category of “Rap Fusion of the Year” for a song on which he features Phila called “someday”.
His song is nominated alongside the bigger boys in the industry; Big Bumpa – Kemishan & Mun*G, Cant Put me Down – Nellysade & Nutty Neithan, Tumunonye – Navio and Kapanka – Bantu Clan.
To vote for Rad Ney, one just needs to send “UGHHA 9E” to 7197 at a cost of only shs 220. Voting can be as many times as you deem fit.
