MAKERERE: Over the years, Makerere University students are now known for making ‘kelele’ a kiswahir word translated to mean noise during their numerous strikes, games and campaigns characterized by chants and slogans such as ‘wewe’, ‘zeee… chaa…’ et al. This is the reason why they never get out of Uganda’s media because their noise attract attention.
However, some students find this means of expression not the most appropriate that’s why Donald Maasa, Ian Niwebyona and Aron Ntulize who mastered the art of poetry have started Kelele at Makerere Poetry Nights as an alternative way for such student to voice their concerns.
“Kelele at Makerere represents an alternative about Makerere, and is aimed at creating a positive noise through poetry and other arts at Makerere” said Donald Maasa one of the founders of Kelele at Makerere
During their various nights, kelele at Makerere will be hosting poets, musicians and others artists from the campus and beyond.
“Today, we have hosted big names in the poetry industry that is to say; Peter Kagayi, Jason Ntaro and Harriet Anena,’’ said Donald Maasa.
With the belief that through poetry people get to talk about difficult and unexplainable things in life such as joy, death, suffering and transformation where they communicate with the deepest part of being.
You can’t afford to wait miss the next Kelele at Makerere Poetry Night on 25th of September 2015 starting at 7pm – 10pm free entry at Makerere Art Gallery and whoever wish to participate is also for free should call Donald Maasa for booking …0701092815. Sponsored by Campus bee
