Fast rising singer Latinum goes by the real names Tonny Mbangira, a 18-year-old student has on many occasions been mistaken for A Pass due to similar vocals. It is a kind of surprising that the Mbarara based singer has started enjoying his celebrity status before joining campus life.
While appearing on UBC over the weekend, Latinum revealed his future plans of joining campus and his first two options are Kampala International University and International University of East Africa. The upcoming singer is still confused on what course to do but Mass communication and information Technology still tops his interests for higher education.
Latinum who is currently a senior six student at Window International School in Mbarara will sit for UNEB this year and hopes to move back to Kampala for higher education while pursuing his musical dreams. As a student, Latinum faces a big problem at school due to his celebrity status mostly at lunchtime hours. Apparently, he is forced to send for food out of school since his fellow students don’t expect him to be in the same queue.
When asked whether he is copying A pass at various interviews, Latinum disagrees by saying that he is inspired by Alkaline and he thinks A Pass could be picking his inspiration from the Jamaican singer as well. Latinum rose to fame after recording his break through hit “Amanya Gange” with the Mbarara based producer T.O.N, followed by ‘Baabo.’
About two years ago, Latinum recorded his first single titled Ova Kampala for as cheap as 30k at Elgon studios but he explains that producer T.O.N accepted the offer due to huge interest in the young star’s talent. He got signed to Gifted Music group after spending over two years with T.O.N’s record Label.
