History last night was written as singer Eddy Kenzo became the first ever Ugandan to win the prestigious BET award. The star was nominated under the category of Viewers’ Choice Best International Act. Kenzo beat his close rival, Casper Nyovest (from South Africa) with over 40,000 votes, even after his votes on Twitter and Facebook under #iPickEddy, were nullified.
Ugandans never lost hope, they all rushed to Instagram to show patriotism and voted for the Sitya Loss star. Many could not watch the awards ceremony live but if you had unlimited internet, you could have been able to stream the them live.
He seemed nervous, unsettled and at the same time anxious whenever the cameras showed him. When time for the announcement of his category was due, he bowed down. And after he was declared winner, you could see his teary eyes glowing with joy. He coudn’t hold back the tears as he said; “I am a testimony. I have been through a lot. this award means I am a world champion!”
Congratulations Kenzo.
