As the struggle to speed up the allocation process of a 6.6 billion Uganda Shilling ($1.8M) COVID-19 relief fund that was received from the African Development Bank continues, artists such as Ykee Benda, Mun G and Nava Grey are banking good dimes from the new juicy mentorship deal from Uganda Waragi under their A Ka Dope Show sponsorship.
A Ka Dope is a multi-art show that launched an online talent search competition last month where 12 underground acts will perform alongside established artistes and stand a chance to win a fully-fledged recording deal. The competition dubbed the A Ka Dope Stars will run from September to December, 2020.
Participants recorded and uploaded a 40-second video of themselves singing or rapping on their social media pages and encouraged their fans to repost, share and comment. Out of the submissions, the 12 best acts shall be shortlisted as semi-finalists and perform live with the A Ka Dope Band to compete for the grand prize – UGX 2 million cash and a recording deal with 101 Music
The Entanglement star, Muna Kampala hitmaker and the Sitaki song bird will feature on the four episodes of the A ka Dope star talent search, each of which shall be headlined by a different Mentor artist whose role is to support the growth and development of the upcoming performers.
“Uganda Waragi is all about encouraging expression of your vibrant Ugandan Spirit, and there’s no better platform for that than A Ka Dope. We continue to stand proudly as a partner, supporting their goal of grooming local talent for the betterment of the entertainment industry in Uganda,” said Agaba Tumusiime, Brand Manager, Uganda Waragi, a sponsor of the show.
The Ykee Benda has fueled the growth of a new age of music with his dynamic vocals and eccentric production. By blending urban production styles with soulful lyrics. Mun G is unarguably among the fore fathers of the hip-hop scene in Uganda and Nava’s incredible vocals qualifies her as a competent music mentor
“We look forward to an exciting three months as we discover fresh talent. To stand a chance to attend some of the shows or even the grand finale in December, fans can buy a Uganda Waragi A Ka Dope pack on Jumia Food and the SafeBoda app,” said Agaba Tumusiime, Brand Manager, Uganda Waragi, a sponsor of the show.
