In this year’s Miss Uganda contest, 80% of the girls vying to be crowned the finest lady in the country are in university. Campusbee takes time to profile the girls from different universities.
Sheena Kyozira, 22.
She’s pursuing a degree in Arts in Arts at the Harvard of Africa (read MUK). She describes her milking experience at the farm as tense, fun and breath taking. She hopes to compensate for the time she has missed in school by consulting with course mates and doing all the missed tests since her school is aware that she is away. She hopes to take up basic organic farming because it is cheap and does not require a lot of capital for start-up.
Sharifah Sherry Nalulyo, 20.
Sherry is a business computing student at Makerere University Business School. She dreams of being an accountant but has since picked up interest in agri-tourism too. If that does not work out, her plan B is starting up a plastic recycling plant since she treasures the hygiene of her environment.
Yasmin Taban, 19.
Taban is pursuing bachelors degree in PR and Media management at Cavendish University. She finds poultry ease to maintain, and will take it up as her project if she wins the contest. The most memorable moment at the boot camp was milking a cow, something she believes would have never happened in her entire life.
Leah Kalanguka, 23.
Leah is a computer engineering student at the ivory tower, Makerere University. Asides her engineering dream, Leah wants to advocate for value addition in the agricultural sector through packaging, processing, cooling, drying, so that farmers earn big from it.
Nantambi Carolyn, 21.
Nantambi is a social sciences student, third year student at Makerere University. Being a part time employee with Top Tv, she is more of gospel music freak with much love for gospel Hip-Hop. Her favourite artiste is Mali and Lecrae. Her most memorable moment at the boot camp is getting extremely dirty at the farm. She had never imagined washing a pig and ‘playing around with soil’. The one thing that blew her mind is there are actually measurements when it comes to digging; one as to measure how much they’re going to dig.
Sharon Auma, 19.
She is a second year student at Makerere University pursuing bachelors degree in Journalism and Communications. She was inspired to run for this year’s contest by the girls who suffered in the LRA war. She is hopeful of winning the crown and when she does, she plans on uplifting the affected by girls by starting up agricultural projects for most of them.
Chritine Letio, 22.
Letio is a student at Gulu University pursuing a degree in accounting and finance. Give her gospel (especially CeCe winanans) music any day, anytime and she is sorted. If she doesn’t win, she will get back to her part time job of being a youth facilitator at Watoto Church, Gulu.
Aloyo Flavia, 24.
She is an ICT student at Gulu University. She would like to start up various commercial agricultural projects in the Northern region like mushroom growing and organic farming to eradicate poverty. She says her love for dancing keeps her up on Friday nights.
Achola Salome, 23.
A procurement and logistics student at Kyambogo University. She was blown away by her fellow contestants who throw a small birthday party for her during the boot camp at Serene Suites. Her area of focus is mushroom growing and rabbits raring.
Christine Tayebwa, 22.
She is a third year student from Kyambogo University is a daughter of a farmer. She started training for Miss Uganda in March before it was even launched. If she wins, she will first throw a big party because she feels she has worked hard for it. Her best moment at the boot camp is being surprised by a fancy room, in Serene Suites.
Evelyn Mugisha, 23.
She is graduating next year from Kyambogo Unviersity with bachelors in degree in Social works and Social sciences. She has picked up interest in cattle keeping and believes that she can earn big off it. She also wants to be the ambassador of Uganda in agriculture both nationally and internationally.
Penelope Nankunda, 21.
She is a student at Uganda Christian University who plans to stop her fellow students from eating junk by opening her own healthy foods restaurant. She hopes to fuse mushrooming growing with greens to be supplied to her restaurant. It was tough for her to choose between the contest and school but her parents supported her either way.
Kesiime Claudet, 21.
Kesiime is a tourism student from Makerere University Business School. Owing to the favourable climate in her home town, Kabale, she plans on venturing into apple growing since it is lucrative. My friends at school know I am contesting for Miss Uganda so when I get back to class, they’ll brief me on what I missed while I was away.
Shilla Karungi, 21.
She is a business administration student at Ndejje University, Kampala campus. She mostly enjoyed makeup, etiquette and articulation classes, which took place on the first week of the boot camp. Even if she doesn’t win the pageant, she believes she’ll join her father in the fish farming business, with her handling the money bit.
