You don’t need to be successful only after school, you could start now and end extremely proud even before your graduation. Pick a leaf from these smart young men!
Meet Kahuma Marvin, Kidega Moses and Afedra Daniel Henry, all second year Makerere University students offering courses in Quantitative Economics, Software Engineering and Civil Engineering respectively.
The 3 Olympia-resided students co-own a food kiosk called Munchies quality food located in Makerere Kikoni, just opposite Olympia hostel. They saved up capital not only to offer food ranging from local to fast foods, but as well deal in mobile money services, something that renders them smart and out of the ordinary. Their inspiration to start the food business came from their love for food and how they terribly feel about bad food.
“We’ve shared a tight bond of friendship for many years, we would often meet up in holidays for a “guys day” at any one of our places and collectively cook a meal, although we were not the best of cooks.” Marvin stated as he smiled sheepishly.
These McDonalds of Muk never gave in to fear or laziness, they had the will to keep trying and make their passion come to reality. Yes, the passion of spreading good food love.
They have reaped so many benefits, from financial gains to knowledge and experience gained from the rigorous activities that are hands on. They are also gaining as far as managing and co-owning a business is concerned. With this, they will not only better their business but also help them breakthrough on other corridors of life.
“One benefit we can never undermine is the close personal relationship we build with our customers,” Henry uttered out.
Just like any other successful business, challenges are registered and Munchies food ain’t any different. Their biggest challenge is the fluctuating prices of food stuffs in the various local markets which affects their returns and makes planning very difficult. Also, estimating the demand for food per day is difficult. For the fantastic 3 since planning is problematic. Lastly, balancing books with work has never been easy, but the brilliant always know how to work it out.
For future prospects; they have ambitions of making Munchies a franchise of Restaurants and Takeaways spread all over various parts of the country and continent at large.
“We as Munchies management are grateful for the fact that the love for Munchies has spread through the hearts of residents of kikoni like a wild fire and we continue to pray that it continues to do so as we strive to make Munchies a true epitome of quality and scrumptious food,” Daniel said.
They hope to become the “African McDonalds”
Their word to the youth is; they should follow and make their dreams come true through their raw talents and must have the utmost determination to achieve this. A great philosopher once said, “we are only limited to the power of our imagination.” So to the youth, no dream is too big, never let anyone tell you that you can’t, never be afraid to fail and you are the master of your own destiny.
So while some of you are obsessing with the best hangouts or next season’s fixture, some are getting rich while young before your eyes.
