Over the years, there have been many youth celebrations including the recently concluded International Youth Day celebrations. The 6th Annual National Youth Festival [ANYF] is a post International Youth Day Celebration by Open Space Forum, an organisation that looks to create and provide space for young people to showcase their skills, talent, innovations, inventions, businesses, and whatnot. The event is free.
Uganda is the second youngest country in the world as regards to population at a rate of 48.5% after Niger. Based on research conducted by the Brookings Institute, over 70% of the population in Uganda comprises of youth. Unfortunately, over 83% of these youth aged between 15 and 24 years are unemployed regardless of their academic status.
The 6th Annual National International Festival is to be convened at Makerere University Freedom Square on Saturday 20th, the same day the Mitchellex bazaar commences. The ANFY is organised under the theme “Our Moment; Championing individual youth initiative for job creation.” The guest of honor will be H.E Deborah Malac, US Ambassador.
The Festival will include activities such as; a high level Forum on Youth in Agriculture, Youth Manifesto reflection platform focusing on the Post Election Youth Agenda, and spaces like; a Youth friendly health services Space, an entrepreneurship and innovations hub, Youth employ-ability space, among others. There shall also be entertainment from artists like Bobi Wine.
The event will also be an area where many young people will showcase/exhibit their products, innovations, and inventions to the public. The event is free, hence all students are invited as there shall be very many activities that no young person might want to miss out on.
